HP Releases G6 Servers

5 Jun 2009

Now more than ever, customers want the best possible return on their server investments. But shouldn’t those investments be made with the latest innovations to help advance their business? HP believes that the best way a business can thrive is to implement the latest technologies that have the ability to manage, scale, and optimize IT infrastructure efficiently. Today, HP announces new innovations to the ProLiant G6 server portfolio with the addition of 11 new servers. HP delivers customers the ability to customize server solutions that are tailored to meet their most demanding business needs.

For mid-market and scale-out solutions, flexibility and density are key. With today’s announcement, HP delivers the first multi node ProLiant rack servers that are based on industry standards. By designing these servers on traditional standards, customers are immediately able to deploy these systems in existing datacenter environments without additional infrastructure expense. The new HP ProLiant DL1000 Multi Node Series offers:

·    A flexible design that simplifies deployment of integrated solutions:

·    4-in-1 efficiency over traditional servers:

·    Double the density of traditional rack servers and the best performance/watt -- all in an industry standard design:

In addition, the G6 portfolio also introduces the first servers based on Six-Core AMD Opteron ™ Processors. With the introduction of this next generation of AMD servers, HP is taking advantage of the unique capabilities of these new six-core processors. Key innovations in these new servers include:

·    Thermal Logic technologies such as HP Dynamic Power Capping and Sea of Sensors which allows G6 servers to use half the power of previous generations

·    Common Power Supplies that offer up to 92% power efficiency

·    Smart Arrays that deliver up to 200% increased performance

·    HP ProLiant Onboard Administrator which orchestrates all critical embedded management aspects of your server including setup, health monitoring, power optimization, thermal control, and iLO remote administration

o   50% more cores which gives the ability to handle bigger workloads while offering better performance

o   21% reduction in processor power consumption with SmartFetch™ technology

o   #1 in virtualization performance with AMD 12core (2 socket) and 24core (4 socket)

These capabilities demonstrate that HP is committed to offering customers the latest technology and functionality within the existing AMD socket design. With an ROI payback in as little as 3 months over single core servers and 11 months over dual core servers, why wouldn’t you upgrade to ProLiant G6?
